5 Apex Legends tips to help you become a champion

So you’ve finally jumped on the battle royale bandwagon (us too) and want to see what Apex Legends is all about? Well the following Apex Legends tips are sure to make your chances of survival in the arena go up, and maybe even net you a few wins.

With Season 4 upon us, and the game celebrating its first birthday in February, there hasn’t been a better time to hop on and start dominating.

Loot (fast)

This should be obvious in a battle royale game, but looting and doing it quickly, is key to succeeding in the first few moments after dropping in. Knowing what attachments you need, as well as armour & weapon types is also critical. Different colours indicate differing levels of rarity, going up from; white, blue, purple and gold (which also can include additional benefits).

Keep moving

Keep moving and move smart. Running around aimlessly out in the open will get you shot, but so will staying in one building all game, though that is literally impossible, as the circle will close in on you fast – and it smacks.

Moving from building to building to upgrade your loadout and utilising the various means of map traversal, while at the same time keeping an eye out for your teams’ positioning is key to making it to the final few squads.

Bonus tip: Use jump towers to cover large areas quickly, and don’t forget to holster your gun (triangle on PS4) when running!

Know your guns

This will come with time, but a knowledge of your chosen firepower will save you. Is your gun a burst-fire SMG or a full-auto rifle? Does the gun require a special ammo type? Do certain attachments make it better? These are the questions you need to be asking. Triple Take <3

Know your Legend

Each of the 11 current Legends (12 is coming with Season 4) have unique abilities that lend themselves to certain playstyles. For instance, Gibraltar is described as a “shielded fortress” and makes use of, you guessed it, shields, while Caustic relies on trapping his victims with toxic gasses. Other Legends can offer things like easier traversal or healing capabilities, it really depends on how you like to play. Personally, I like to fly on a zipline or bamboozle my opponents, but that’s just me.

Each Legend, apart from having a cool design and personality, has three abilities that you need to master. Pathfinder, for example, has the Zipline Gun ultimate ability that can be deployed for his team to use when charged, a Tactical Grappling Hook, to reach high places fast, and the passive ability Insider Knowledge, which scans a beacon to reveal the next circle ahead of time.

Ping

A new yet essential action (performed with R1 on PlayStation) if you are playing with randoms and aren’t communicating. Being able to ‘ping’ item locations and enemies for your teammates is new to the genre, but is useful in numerous situations.

Bonus tip: Know the map, the more you play the more you’ll know about your surroundings. This will help you out as some areas have higher-tier loot, and often attract more action.

Apex Legends is available now, free to play on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
